Little Bird

As I mentioned in her 5 Month post, we have started Emerson on solid food this past month. Mostly because she concurrently started waking up at 5am (EARLY!!!) and was whining when she finished her bottles. Jeff and I compared notes, and said, “its time”! My parents were on their way to our house already so they brought over a little rice cereal and we were off to the races!

She was not sure what to do with it all, then came apples… and she figured out quickly that her best little birdie impression got her food as well as laughs from mommy and daddy. I have been enjoying making all of her food and surprised by how truly simple it is. Also, the use of my handy dandy spreadsheet calculation shows me that we are saving close to 97%... What!?!? I’m still an engineer-mommy… don’t judge.

Here is the video of Emerson’s first tastes as well as one taken recently. You can see how well she has gotten the hang of things. (I love the little birdie impression)

"Life is not a Snapshot"

My new favorite song lyrics...

-----------------

Josh Wilson - Before the Morning
From the album Life is Not A Snapshot

Do you wonder why you have to
Feel the things that hurt you
If there's a God who loves you
Where is He now

Maybe there are things you can't see
And all those things are happening
To bring a better ending
Someday somehow you'll see you'll see

Would you dare would you dare to believe
That you still have a reason to sing
Cause the pain that you've been feeling
It can't compare to the joy that's coming

So hold on you gotta wait for the light
Press on and just fight the good fight
Cause the pain that you've been feeling
It's just the dark before the morning

My friend you know how this all ends
And You know where you're going
You just don't know how you'll get there
So say a prayer

And hold on cause there's good for those who love God
But life is not a snapshot
It might take a little time but you'll see the bigger picture

Would you dare would you dare to believe
That you still have a reason to sing
Cause the pain that you've been feeling
It can't compare to the joy that's coming

So hold on you gotta wait for the light
Press on and just fight the good fight
Cause the pain that you've been feeling
It's just the dark before the morning

Once you feel the weight of glory
All your pain will fade to memory
Once you feel the weight of glory
All your pain will fade to memory, memory, memory

Would you dare would you dare to believe
That you still got a reason to sing
Cause the pain that you've been feeling
It can't compare to the joy that's coming

Come on you've gotta wait for the light
Press on and just fight the good fight
Cause the pain that you've been feeling
It's just the hurt before the healing
Oh the pain that you've been feeling
It's just the dark before the morning
Before the morning

5 Months! (stats to follow)

Goodness, it has been a week already since Emerson turned 5 months old. Call me a bad mommy if you like, but its kinda nice to have her at the stage where a month can fly by. I remember in the beginning, I was counting down the days ‘till the next appointment.

These photos were taken last Friday night (on time, thank you!)

A few notes about Emerson at this stage.

- We are fully engrossed in solid foods these days; three meals a day. Her favorites are apples, pears, carrots, sweet potatoes, and we can not feed her mangoes fast enough. Further down on the charts are green beans and cauliflower.

- She is sitting up, unsupported now, although she can loose her balance with Wrigley walks by.

- Emerson and Wrigley are best buds. Wrigley enjoys licking (read: kissing) Emerson, and Emerson loves touching Wrigley. I think she likes the texture of her fur. They are really good with each other, even when E decides to try and grab a chunk of W’s skin/ear… Wrigley only whimpers a little bit. Its kinda cute.

- Emerson is sleeping like a champ, which makes mommy and daddy very happy. She now goes to bed right away without crying. I almost put “without a peep” here, but she almost ALWAYS ‘talks’ to her toys; so fun to creep on the monitor and listen.

- Speaking of ‘talking’ this little one is pure GIRL and loves to make noises. I’m so curious when she will start stinging them together to make recognizable sounds, I can’t wait.

- Emerson loves to “get your nose”. This entails opening her mouth as wide as she can, and dive bombing your nose. It’s a funny game and always makes us giggle.

- Both her dimples are really starting to surface from deep within all her baby fat cheeks. Consider yourself warned because she can melt you with a dose of the double dimples.

- She took her first swing ride last weekend. As this is a spoiler, as due to my poor diligence at posting, this happened after the 21st.

- Another spoiler, she is now rolling over both directions… what will happen in the next 4 weeks?!?!?

Cousins, Moms and Sisters

On my list today was "Blog post about Kiddo Photo Shoot"

Well, guess what!?!? My sister beat me to it! Check out her post to see the photos of the three kids. We spent an entire day, waiting out the naps, taking pictures and more pictures. All of the kids were painstakingly kept clean while I am sure none of the parents had even showered that day. We waded our way through rain, meltdowns and one unbalanced supported sitter.

Our singular goal was to get a photo worthy to be blown up as gift for Nana on Mother's Day... guess which one we ended up using? You guessed it, the very first one. Seriously... these kids!

Guess what else!?!? I just crossed that item off my list.... yep, there it goes! Bye bye!

That sure was easy. Now, if only I can get Jacquelyn to do our laundry too....
