Thinking of Moscow

Next week, it will be a year since Jeff and I took our weekend trip to Moscow. It was the beginning of our adventurous travel year, and a relative fruitful trip for us.

Needless to say, we were both struck by the news hitting the wires yesterday that two female suicide bombers attacked the metro system in Moscow. We are sensitive to all the people who were injured and killed. More specifically, we are affected because we traveled the metro system extensively and visited those two stations on our trip. Basically, one year ago, we were right there.

The odd part of it all is that the night before the bombs occurred, I laid out Emerson’s clothes for the next day. As you can see in the photo, she is wearing her Russian onesie. Jeff had tea in our Moscow Starbucks mug and told Emerson of the significance of that yesterday. Even in scenic Palatine, we are feeling the impact of the hopelessness of those two female attackers.
My heart breaks for the people of Moscow this week.

I love world travel because of this: the more you travel, the more the news of the day, whether good or heartbreaking, becomes real to you. The people become real, and not just “those people”, they become more “God’s people”.

You are so right Al! Thanks for posting this...and I do love that onesie. I am so glad Emerson is growing up hearing about "foreign lands" and soon enough she'll be joining you guys on those adventures! I love who you are! Hugs.
